Punta Licosa and the island of Licosa: between trekking and the sea

Punta Licosa is one of the most magical locations in the Cilento area. Located within the municipality of Castellabate, between San Marco and Ogliastro Marina, it can only be reached from two access points: to the south via a limited-access road and to the north via a path.

It can be reached by car only by residents, while tourists can get to the Licosa beach by bike or on foot along the San Marco path, or by boat via the sea. At Punta Licosa, in fact, there is also a very quaint little harbor where bathers frequently position themselves right on the pier, as it is one of the most convenient spots for sunbathing.

There are many things that can be done in Punta Licosa thanks to an enviable natural heritage. The area, including Licosa Island falls within the Santa Maria di Castellabate Marine Protected Area. Snorkeling in the waters of Licosa is very impressive, but the nature on the mainland is no less impressive either.

For lovers of long nature walks, it is possible to visit the promontory starting from San Marco di Castellabate by taking the Licosa path. A journey through nature, unspoiled places and enchanting baths.

  • The promontory, in addition to having a fascinating view of Licosa Island, has some easily accessible coves in which to lie. This strand is characteristic for the presence of rock and pebbles that accompany bathers' entry into the water.
  • Coming on foot from San Marco di Castellabate, one encounters a first cove near the charming Hotel Villa Leucosia. Continuing toward the port of Licosa are other spots where sunbathing, or swimming, is possible, including the harbor.
  • Licosa Island and its lighthouse are one of the wonders of Cilento. A small strip of land just a few meters from the promontory that in addition to showing the charm of nature houses historical evidence. The island houses a lighthouse but also archaeological evidence including part of a partly submerged pier and the remains of a Roman villa.
